MISSISSIPPI PILOT CAR REGULATIONS
When Permit Is Needed
Over 8'6" wide,
Over 13'6" high,
Trailer over 53' long

Special Information Needed
Need to have a certificate of insurance on file with Mississippi (they need to be listed as the certificate holder)

Times Of Movement
1/2 hour after sunrise to 1/2 hour before sunset; weekend travel is permitted until 1/2 hour before sunset on Sat. No Sunday travel
Travel prohibited on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day (no movement after noon on days preceding these holidays). Permit office closed on these holidays plus Martin Luther King Day and the day after Thanksgiving.
Curfews: No movement for loads in excess of 12’ wide in the major urban areas of Memphis/South Haven, Jackson & Gulf Coast (except I-10) 7am-8:30am & 4:30pm-5:30pm

When Pilot/Escort Vehicle is Required
A. On All Highways:
Overall length 95' to 105'- 1 rear;
Over 105' overall- 2 (front & rear);
Over 12' wide- 1 (front on 2-lane/rear on 4-lane),
Overhang of 15' or more in front- 1 front,
Overhang of 15' or more in rear- 1 rear
B. Mobiles/Modulars On 2-Lane Highways:
4' wide-1 front,
16' wide-1 (front on 2-lane/rear on 4)

Requirements for Pilot/Escort Vehicle
General: A single motor vehicle
Signs: “OVERSIZE LOAD” sign mounted on front of lead escort & on rear of following escort or front & rear of single escort
Lights: Flashing or revolving amber light
Flags: 2 red flags mounted on top of the vehicle
Additional equipment: 2-way radio

Requirements for Pilot/Escort Vehicle Operator N/A
